Police Force Case Studies

Metropolitan Police Constabulary

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Economic and Specialist Crime Directorate conducted a complex enquiry into two criminals that provided information to HM Revenue and Customs informing them where a large number of firearms and drugs were concealed. Originally sentenced to 18 years for importation of drugs they were released after 11 months. After calls for an enquiry into the reduced sentences an investigation took place to prove the information given was an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

After a lengthy investigation evidence was obtained from over 20 law enforcement agencies. A number of individuals arrested or interviewed under caution during 2006/7. There were a number of complex disclosure issues due to the amount of documents and statements obtained. At the conclusion of the trial the conspirators were sentenced to 54 year imprisonment.

Gloucestershire Constabulary

The Internal Investigations Unit (IIU) needed a system that could provide a wide range of Operations and Intelligence functionality, but be self-contained - enabling them to proactively investigate criminality and corruption within the force. The system had to be easy to learn, use and administer, so the team could get up and running fast. It also had to be very flexible, so the team could tailor it to their particular needs. With all these requirements and time of the essence, there was only one solution that fitted the bill - Clue Sentinel

Isle of Man Constabulary

In Feb 2002 the bodies of Samantha Barton and George Green were found murdered in Douglas on the Isle of Man. Forensic examination of the bodies revealed that both victims had been strangled and sexually assaulted prior to their death. With both bodies being discovered less than half a mile apart and information that the victims had been seen together the previous day.
During the course of a double murder enquiry the investigation team utilized Clue to manage in excess of 1,300 Actions; 2,700 Exhibits; 1,400 Statements; 1,400 Enquiry Report Forms; and 90 Tape Transcripts.  It was one of the largest enquiries that the Isle of Man Constabulary has undertaken and clearly demonstrated the value of such a user friendly IT system

Northumbria Constabulary

When Intelligence suggested the wholesale supply of Cocaine and Ecstasy in Newcastle’s East End in 2001, the supply had to be stopped and the Suppliers brought to Justice.
The Operation ‘Leicester’ back room staff needed to be able to support a team of Level 1 undercover officers embedded within the local community. Secrecy was vital for those officers’ safety and the team needed a stand alone database system to manage the intelligence and evidence gathered on the ground by them. This database had to have the flexibility to provide real time case preparation so that, if needs arose, evidence and interview packages would be immediately available.
Clue was the answer.
